Injection
Snoreplasty is the newest technique available to eliminate
bothersome snoring. The procedure takes approximately 20
minutes and is done in the office with a topical anesthetic
only. A small amount of sclerosing material is injected
into the soft palate to cause scarring which makes the palate
more rigid, decreasing or eliminating snoring. The procedure
itself is relatively painless and has very few complications.
Mild discomfort is present for several days, but usually
requires only topical anesthetics, such as Cepacol lozenges
and Tylenol. About one half of patients will require a second
injection 6 weeks later. Over 90% of patients treated have
elimination or reduction of their snoring to a degree that
their spouse is not bothered.
Not everyone is a candidate for
this new treatment. Careful evaluation by experts in the
treatment of sleep disorders, such as Drs. Lee and Jordan,
should be performed prior to undergoing the procedure.
